Renovating an Apartment Building: Tips

I had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so when I saw a local apartment building up for sale at a great price, I decided make the investment. I am a manager by day, so I thought I was ready to be a great landlord. After I had trouble attracting new tenants, I decided to try investing in a few upgrades to see if I could attract more tenants with the added features. I hired a local contractor to work on my first project, which was a fitness room. I remembered that I always looked for buildings with them when I rented apartments! I then had some work done on the grounds and in the apartments themselves. The building is completely full now, so I realized it was a good investment. I decided to start a blog to share my renovating and construction tips with anyone who needs them!

FAQ About Grease Traps

Do you smell a foul odor on the exterior of the restaurant that you recently opened? If the odor is located near the area of the building where the kitchen is located, it might stem from the grease trap needing to be cleaned. It is actually important for grease traps to be cleaned every now and then for numerous reasons. Take a look at this article for answers to the questions that you might have about grease traps.

What Is a Grease Trap?

Basically, a grease trap is a device that is attached to the plumbing system in your restaurant. It is used to intercept solid waste products that are poured down the sink in your restaurant kitchen. The trap can also intercept grease and other solid food products that are passed through the garbage disposal, dishwasher, and other kitchen appliances. If the trap is never cleaned out, the grease and other waste products can accumulate and cause a lot of problems.

Why Is It Important for Grease to Be Retained?

If grease is not removed from a trap, it can flow into the municipal sewer lines. The grease can lead to bodies of water becoming contaminated, which can cause health problems for animals and humans. Contaminated water can also cause the municipal wastewater collection equipment to become damaged. For instance, the contaminants can lead to equipment parts not functioning to filter water properly. Failing to get the grease trap cleaned can also have an effect on the plumbing system in your restaurant.

How Can a Full Grease Trap Harm a Plumbing System?

The plumbing system in your restaurant can be affected by a full grease trap in several ways. For instance, the grease that is meant to flow into the trap might end up staying in the plumbing lines. You can then end up with a backed-up plumbing system. You might actually notice that waste flows out of drains slower than usual or that the water pressure from plumbing fixtures is low before the system completely backs up.

How Do Professionals Clean Grease Traps?

Professionals have special equipment that is used for pumping grease and other debris out of traps. However, the grease is usually left behind after pumping is done, so it will be manually removed. The contractor will basically scrape away any grease that has hardened. Speak to a contractor about inspecting and cleaning your grease trap as soon as you can. Contact a company like Forrest Sewer Pump Service to get started.
